Default Ideas for a pub crawl

Hi All

I have just signed up for a charity ride in Queensland. It is called Smiddy's challenge and in the past has been a 1600km ride from Brisbane to Townsville averaging 200km a day for 8 days with no rest days.

I may yet do the big one but at this stage have signed up for the middy Smiddy in late May which is 580km in 3 days, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Warwick, Brisbane.

I need to do some fundraising and as they have a good doco I thought it would be good to show what it is like for good to average cyclists to ride these sorts of distances.

I then started thinking of a pub crawl style ride the Sunday afternoon after the Canberra Tour. Something like sign up and pay $X and get a free drink at each pub, stop at one a bit longer and watch the 45 minute show and then move on to the next. Do a deal with the pubs to get discounted drinks and keep the profits.

Does anyone have any ideas to take this further? Would you come along?

Thanks

Well seeing as I am so overwhelmed by your response to this I am wondering if it would be better to do it after the tour on the Sunday arvo. slow spin around for recovery with lots of carbs thrown in to aid in recovery?

Maybe a cafe crawl instead - arrange with some cafes to be open for us an do a mystery tour around half a dozen cafes at the extremities of Canberra for coffee, tea, pastries and lemonade.

Or there's the old Poker tours that people do - get a card at each place - best hand Winz!

Are you talking right after the CT though? Last year we all went home not long after for a nano nap and met again at All Bar for a thowsand beers and dinner + a tack on of the Casino and Gelato for some of us.

Beer was invented for events like this. With any luck the Casino has forgotten our faces and Bozzies arguments with the flat screen. Priceless.

How about both? Beers on the night (with or without Casino tack on!) followed a week or two later with a Presidential cafe crawl?

Milto - insurance and liability might be a huge issue for an advertised pub crawl. If you were looking at doing that, I would make it an "informal" type of thing rather than something that people actually sign up for. I.e. a couple of like minded individuals riding from pub to pub and then just donating some money to the cause at the end of it!

No such issue with the cafe crawl.... and given the cafe culture of us lycra clad whannabe's it could be a goer one saturday or sunday morning. Reckon you wouldn't have much trouble getting a few of the cyclists friendly cafe's on board.

The Canberra Coffee and Cafe Crawl has a bit of a ring to it
